Common questions about garden design + installation

  • We design site-specific gardens using native and climate-adapted plants. Most projects focus on layered planting, pollinator habitat, and creating spaces that feel intentional and connected to place. That might be a front yard transformation, foundation refresh, backyard garden, or phased whole-property plan.

  • Yes. Native and climate-adapted plants are at the core of our work. They support pollinators, reduce long-term maintenance, and create gardens that evolve naturally through the seasons.

  • Not always. Many gardens are designed with a long-term vision and implemented in phases. This allows the space to evolve thoughtfully and makes larger transformations more manageable.

  • We start with an on-site consultation where we walk the property and talk about goals, light, soil, and how you use the space. From there, we develop a direction and we prioritize areas for installation, either all at once or in phases.

  • Most projects focus on front yards, foundation plantings, backyard garden design, pollinator plantings, and cohesive whole-property plans. Some clients start with one area and expand over time.

  • Yes. All projects begin with a paid on-site consultation. This allows us to evaluate your space, talk through ideas, and determine if we’re a good fit. Schedule one now!

  • Most full garden design + installation projects begin around $7,000, depending on size and scope. Many clients choose to build in phases, starting with a few key areas and expanding over time.

  • Absolutely. Many projects begin with improving curb appeal while also introducing ecological planting and stronger structure. The goal is a space that feels welcoming, intentional, and alive.

  • Sometimes. If something is overcrowded, invasive, or not thriving in its location, we may edit the space so the garden can function better. Often we keep what’s working and build from there.

  • Yes. Smaller spaces are often our favorites to design. We love a tiny garden because small spaces can have a mighty impact. A thoughtfully designed pocket garden can stand on its own and show what’s possible, even in a compact yard.

It’s not about creating grand, full-scale botanic gardens. It’s about creating spaces that feel special and within reach — layered, thoughtful, and rooted in everyday life.

  • Native and climate-adapted plantings tend to require less watering and input over time, but all gardens evolve and need some care, especially as they establish.

Our goal is to create something manageable that becomes easier as it settles in. Many clients enjoy learning the rhythm of their garden and caring for it themselves.

For those who prefer more support, we also offer ongoing seasonal visits through our Private Client program. These visits focus on thoughtful edits, dividing and transplanting, and helping the garden continue to mature in a cohesive way.

Some clients use this to fine-tune the space over time. Others simply like having an experienced set of eyes on the garden as it evolves.

    Both approaches work beautifully.

  • Yes. Our process is collaborative and based on how you want to feel in your space. Some clients have a strong vision, others just know something isn’t working. Both are a great place to start.

  • We take on a limited number of garden projects each season. Booking earlier allows more flexibility, especially for spring and early summer installations.

  • The first step is scheduling a consultation. We’ll walk your space, talk through ideas, and begin shaping a plan that can evolve over time.

Spoke Pockette Farm

Spoke Pockette reflects the small, meaningful spaces that shape our neighborhoods — pocket gardens, tucked-in yards, and overlooked corners. Each one becomes part of a larger network, connected like spokes, creating more beauty and habitat throughout the community.

This year, our goal is to collectively restore at least one acre of turf lawn into prairie — one thoughtful space at a time.
